Tablecloths? Why not!

Today I got sidetracked (in a good way) after I got a suggestion to make a repeat pattern from an eyelash fern for a tablecloth.

I have five unfinished paintings on my table(s) and well, I had to take a small break to start painting the elements for this pattern! Turns out, I need a tablecloth too, and I love putting something new on the kitchen table each spring.

This whole business started with this screenshot of the eyelash fern. Besides deciding I had to start painting this immediately (how does that happen?), I also now want to buy one because it is super cool!

I already had my gouache paints out, so gouache it is. I painted some fun eyelash fern leaves and some markings for background interest.

I then scanned and separated the graphics and arranged them into a repeat pattern.

I picked a teal background because, well, I want this in my kitchen :). Seriously, it doesn’t match anything else I have in there, but that is the vibe I think I want for spring!

Here is a great mockup of what I think this will look like. I of course need to seriously clean and get rid of all of the clutter to make my place look like this(!), and maybe buy those chairs….. I really like the mid-century modern vibe.

I’ll have to update this post when I have the “real” picture!

Now, off to do a print sample, upload to Spoonflower, and order my test swatch. Phew! Where did the morning go?
